Dalgona Coffee recently created quite the hype on TikTok and other social media platforms. It is the same as whipped coffee, which many of us have been making since the beginning of time.
However, it was surprising that so many people were oblivious to this delicious and easy-to-make beverage.
Coffee is wonderful in every form, but Dalgona coffee is still one-of-a-kind. The best thing about this coffee recipe is that you can make it both hot and cold. I personally prefer it iced in the summers and steaming hot in winters. Before narrating the recipe, I would like to mention the origin of this trendy coffee drink.
Apparently, a Korean T.V show was the first to devise the name ‘Dalgona’, so you can say that it is a product of Asian cuisine.
Dalgona is in fact a traditional street snack in Korea, which tastes a lot like honeycomb toffee.
The way the dessert is made is quite similar to how we make whipped coffee, hence the name. Whipped coffee has been by go-to beverage, ever since I became addicted to coffee.

Honestly, it is so convenient to prepare, and tastes much better than most expensive cups of coffee I’ve tried at cafes. Dalgona coffee essentially constitutes four ingredients, and can be prepared within five minutes at home.
You don’t need a coffee machine or any fancy ingredients. You can use either instant coffee or ground coffee for this recipe.
Instant coffee is the popular option, as the resulting concoction is fluffier; however, do not use powdered coffee mixes, which include milk and sugar.
Instant coffee is cheaper and more widely available, as compared to ground coffee. While most varieties of both kinds look identical, there are some differences.
Ground coffee is more flavorful, but it does not dissolve in milk or water, i.e. residue is left behind. Instant coffee dissolves quickly, though it is bitterer and lacks the piquancy of its counterpart.

Most offices favor instant coffee, as the brew does not deposit particles at the bottom of the machine, thereby allowing efficient cleaning. Truth be told, good coffee
for the staff can avert several workplace accidents.
Instant granulated coffee – half cup
Granulated Sugar – half cup
Water – half cup
A cup of Milk
You will need a medium sized bowl to mix equal amounts of coffee, sugar, and water together. You can use either white sugar or brown sugar, as per your liking.
Warm water is ideal, but water at room temperature is fine as well. You can use an electric hand mixer to whip the ingredients; you will achieve a fluffy caramel colored amalgam within a few minutes. If you don’t have an electric mixer, you may use a manual whisk or egg beater.
Manual mixing takes longer, but the results are equally rewarding. If you like your coffee chilled, fill about three quarters of a tall glass with cold milk and ice cubes. Fill the remaining quarter of your glass with the caramel colored concoction, stir, and enjoy. If you own a milk frother, use it before adding the coffee mixture.
For hot Dalgona coffee, you may fill up two-thirds your favorite mug with warm frothed milk and then add the mixture to the brim. You can sprinkle cocoa or cinnamon powder on top for some extra flavor. The remaining Dalgona mixture can be stored in the refrigerator for a few days.
