Chin chin is a snack enjoyed by both young and old, it’s a snack commonly made in Africa especially Nigerians.
There are two types of chin chin, which is frying and baking. But looking at, the frying type is the most common way of making chin chin, most people prefer the frying method to bake method.
These are the ingredients required for making chin chin
FlourButter, egg, mik, salt, sugar, nutmeg and vegetable oil for frying.
Chin chin is a popular snacks, It as a sweet taste and we have three different ways of making it which are soft chin chin, hard chin chin and the in between which is ( not too soft nor too hard).
To get a soft chin chin use egg and baking powder when adding up the ingredients, for the hard chin chin add more floor when mixing to form a firm dough and do not add egg.
For the in between make sure you use egg but just small quantity and also use adequate milk, to make it have that balance taste and texture.
when buying flour buy all purpose flour and use odorless vegetable oils for frying
Ingredients for making chin chin
- 5cups of flour
- 1½ cups of sugar
- ¼ teaspoon of baking powder
- 1 Egg
- A cup of milk
- 40gram Butter or margarine
- ¼ teaspoon of salt
- ¼ teaspoon of nutmeg
- Vegetable ( Oil for frying)
In large clean bowl, Mix the milk and sugar add about 1½ cup of water leave for 2 minutes to soak.
Take another bowl sieve your flour and baking powder into the bowl, add your nutmeg rub in the margarine into the flour till it as mixed well with flour without no lumps. Add your egg and mix it well.
Add your sugar and milk mixture to the flour mixture and mix with clean hands till you achieved a smooth dough and
you can’t see butter anymore in it.
It shouldn’t be too soft non too hard.
Now cut the dough into six part and make into ball.
Transfer the dough to your clean working surface, gradually knead it like you are folding clothes, remember to flip sides while kneading.
Clean your rolling pin and chopping board
Don’t forget to add flour on your chopping board and rolling pin so that the dough don’t gum to it.
Roll the dough flat
The thickness depends on your very own choice.
Cut into a desired size by using chin chin cutter or normal kitchen knife.
When cutting make sure you cut the dough straight enough so that it can come out very nice and attractive. you can as well cut it into another fine shape apart from the regular chin chin shape.
Place a clean fry pan on the fire, pour some vegetable oil and make sure your put enough oil on the frypan to allow it to fry well, leave the oil to get hot for a well.
Deep fry on a medium heat, while frying stir the chin chin continuously, to avoid them joining till you get a golden brown color.
scoop out with a perforated spoon. And don’t wait until is very brown before scooping them out; because after taking them out it will still get brown while cooling off.
Spread it in a dry tray to cool off before transferring them into your tightair container.
Serve with cool drinks if your choice.
